Brass Ensembles
Mrs Robinson: 3:14
I'm currently performing with the North Bay Brass Ensemble. A bi-product/ensemble of the North Bay Wind Ensemble. As we are preparing for local performances, I did this arrangement to add to our repertory as a "pop" kind of tune for the public to recognize. I chose Mrs Robinson by Paul Simon to add to our repertory . Started the arrangement on April 2 and finished the 10th. 2022

Discovery : May 2019
Length - 9:10
While I was the Instrumental Music Director at Vintage High School, I've had several (SEVERAL !!!) past students out there in the Professional & Recreational Musical World. One of my past students is Dr. Mitchell Dunham. Though he only attended Vintage for a couple years before his family relocated in the mid-west, he continued his interests in Music/Trumpet Performance and has earned his Doctoral Degree. He is currently the Executive Director of the San Antonio Brass Band and I contacted him in regarding to composing a brass band composition and if the San Antonio Brass Band work be interested in reading, recording and possibly giving "Discovery" a public performance. Needless to say, MItch was very open to do so. Now that I have finished Discovery (compositions really never finished...on going tweaks at all times) I have sent it along and now in the hands of the Dr. Dunham. We'll see how it goes.....
The Composition "Discovery" comes from a couple thoughts.
1st : While visiting my brother in Great Falls Montana, we went out to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center. Learning more about the excitement and challenges that they both faced while on this exploration
2nd: This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo's Moon Landing! (I was that kid sitting on the edge of the chair watching this happen live on TV. WOW! The challenges that NASA, and what went through the minds Neil Armstrong ,and those who followed, prior to their walk on the moon!
The composition begins with a thought process of the uncertainty. Imagining the challenges that "will" certainly come forth. Then moves in to an excitement of taking on the challenges no matter what. MOVE ON ! Failure is not an OPTION!. Then a short reflective moment of the experiences, followed by the coda of celebration.

To Dance of Children : 1979
Another project I wrote during my senior year at CSUH. Not sure how the copncept came about, so I simply started. As the idea and the direction that the composition started to develop, it was reminding me of a bunch a children playing around the school play ground. Each kid jocking around for the "main role" as they all try to figure out their pecking order.
Written for 2 Trpts, F-Horn, Trombone, Tuba

Friday At Five - Brass Quintet : 1979
On a Friday afternoon, after my classes at CSU Hayward (Now East Bay) I was commuting from Hayward to Concrd using the 680 Freeway between Crow Canyon (San Ramon) and Ygnacio Valley Blvd trying to get home as soon as possible. Needless to say, when you need to get home, many challenges come about. This Compostion was written about that.... Gettin Home!
It was written during my Senior year and was played quite a bit by CSU Hayward students.
Minature For Brass Quintet : 1978
While studing Theory & Composition at Cal. St. Univ. Hayward with Dr. Barrart, he insisted on "just write"! Don't get bogged down on writing, rewrite, trying to perfect it, etc..... Just sketch out the ideas, fill it in, score it out and get it performed and get it recorded!...... "You have one week to submit your Composition"......The learning process will take its coarse and you'll have time to reflect back on it. For good or bad, get it done.
This Minature For Brass is just that. I had a couple ideas and I went to work on it. On my next lesson, I submitted this Composition.

Weekend Suite - Brass Quartet -1978/79
MVT I ; Friday Night
MVT II : Saturday Night
MVT III : The Morning After The Two Nights Before
I wrote this Composition while at CSU Hayward in the middle of my senior year. Another "project" my Comp Professor was pushing me to do. So, I had to come up with a concept!
During this period of time, Friday Nights & Saturday Nights were, needless to say, adventurous no matter what the agenda was. I decided to create this Three Movement Suite (Concept Composition) based on the spirit of looking ahead toward the weekend. For me, specially duriing the winter season, heading up the to the mountains to pack in a weekend of skiing!
